Question: Why is it important that the Beacon v3.0 is MFi certified?
Answer: The DigiFarm Beacon v3.0 is the industry’s leading Bluetooth device and first to be MFi (Apple) certified to stream RTK data using a cellular-capable iPad to all major brands of GPS rovers. Because it’s certified by Apple, we are able to use high-power class 1 Bluetooth to optimize communication performance between the Beacon and iPad. Devices that haven’t been through this certification run the risk of limited bandwidth, interrupted data flow, and reduced operating range. The primary driver behind this technology is utilizing the iPad for multiple applications. This solution eliminates the cost of a dedicated data plan to lower the overall cost of the GPS correction signal.

Question: How does it work?
Answer: The Beacon device is paired with the smart device. An application on the smart device downloads the corrections from the server and seamlessly passes it along through the Beacon device.

Question: How fast is it to install?
Answer: The Beacon v3.0 is designed to be rapidly deployed in the field. In most situations, the Beacon v3.0 is plugged directly into the receiver, paired with the smart device, configured from the app, and you are then connected and ready to use it. Typical install times are less than 5 minutes including network configuration. No external wiring for power or antennas is necessary for the majority of installations.

Question: How tough is it?
Answer: Thoughtful consideration has been given to ensure the Beacon is rugged for field use. The housing is UV resistant and weatherproof. While every consideration was made to ensure the device doesn’t fail, this is an electronic device and things do happen.

Question: Where do I purchase the Beacon v3.0?
Answer: The Beacon v3.0 is available for purchase from our online store. Alternately, you can contact any DigiFarm dealer to purchase the device. If your local precision farming dealer isn’t a DigiFarm dealer, please have them contact us, as we are always setting up new dealers.

Question: Are there any fees to use the Beacon v3.0?
Answer: The DigiFarm app is free to download off the App store. When you are using the DigiFarm VBN service there are no fees to use the Beacon v3.0; it is included with an active subscription. If your area is not currently covered under the VBN Network, please contact us to see if/when coverage is coming to your area.

Question: Can I run my John Deere system on anybody’s network?
Answer: The answer here is no. DigiFarm generates the John Deere corrections from remote servers and not directly on the app or Beacon v3.0. You will have to use the DigiFarm VBN service. If you are not currently in our coverage area, we welcome new opportunities to expand the DigiFarm coverage area.  We welcome JD dealers to consider becoming DigiFarm resellers so that they can offer this service to their customers. Question: Does my receiver need to be enabled for RTK?
Answer: Yes, the Beacon is no different than using radio RTK.

Question: How much data should I expect to use?
Answer: The average usage ranges from between 400-600 MB per month. If you are running around the clock you may use just over one Gigabyte.

Question: Can I use my phone?
Answer: Yes, however you should have a dedicated device for the Beacon to avoid conflict with voice overriding data.

Question: Is there a warranty?
Answer: We offer a Limited Warranty. This product is warranted to be free from defects in materials or workmanship for one year from the date of purchase. Contact your local dealer or sales representative for more information regarding the Limited Warranty.
